I am grateful to our members, volunteers, and supporters whose dedication makes this journey possible. Together, we will continue to nurture minds, uplift spirits, and build a healthier, more compassionate society.
Nitin’s Journey to Recovery
I never imagined I would become an alcoholic. My father died of liver cirrhosis when I was just nine years old, and I had seen the chaos his drinking created in our home. Watching my mother’s endless suffering, I promised myself I would never touch alcohol. But on my 18th birthday, I couldn't refuse my first sip—and that single moment began a long and painful struggle.
At first, alcohol seemed harmless. It gave me confidence, helped me socialize, and made me feel in control. But addiction is a disease—it is progressive, cunning, and deceptive. Very soon, I needed more and more to feel the same effect. By the time I finished college, drinking had become routine. Blackouts, mood swings, and reckless behavior became part of my life. People avoided me, and my self-esteem collapsed.
Ten Years of Strength
Having spent the best 23 years of my life serving as an Army officer, discipline, courage, and resilience were second nature to me. Yet, when I took early retirement, I found myself unprepared for the sudden void. What started as occasional social drinking soon spiraled into a chronic illness—alcohol addiction. To my dismay, I was losing control of my life and drifting away from the very values I had once lived by.
It was my family who became the first line of defense against this illness. Their repeated pleas and painful tears did not stop me, but their unconditional love never wavered. When they realized that willpower alone could not break this disease, they took the courageous step of seeking medical help. That decision became the turning point of my life.
