Ten Years of Strength

Col Pradeep
Having spent the best 23 years of my life serving as an Army officer, discipline, courage, and resilience were second nature to me. Yet, when I took early retirement, I found myself unprepared for the sudden void. What started as occasional social drinking soon spiraled into a chronic illness—alcohol addiction. To my dismay, I was losing control of my life and drifting away from the very values I had once lived by.
It was my family who became the first line of defense against this illness. Their repeated pleas and painful tears did not stop me, but their unconditional love never wavered. When they realized that willpower alone could not break this disease, they took the courageous step of seeking medical help. That decision became the turning point of my life.
I entered a structured program of detox and recovery in Amritsar . The journey was neither simple nor quick, but with the unwavering support of my wife , I completed a 100-day recovery programme. For the first time, I understood that addiction is not a weakness of character, but a disease that requires treatment, guidance, and fellowship .
Mindspa Society became an anchor in my healing journey. Their approach of psychoeducation, structured recovery, and building connections in a support group allowed me to rebuild both confidence and purpose. My wife walked every step of this journey with me—not just as a caregiver, but later as a mentor. AaaWatching her transform pain into service has been one of my proudest blessings.
Today, as I mark ten years of successful recovery, I realize that sobriety is not a destination but a daily practice. I owe my strength to my family’s faith, my doctors’ guidance, and the fellowship of Mindspa Society. Together, they helped me rediscover life beyond addiction.
Recovery has given me not just freedom from alcohol, but a renewed sense of purpose: to stand as a living example that with family, treatment, and fellowship , one can overcome even the most cunning of diseases.
