WHY WE EXIST
ABOUT US
Mental Health in India: Breaking the Silence with MindSpa
India is facing a silent mental health crisis. According to the World Health Organization, by 2026, nearly 20% of the Indian population will suffer from at least one mental health condition. The National Mental Health Survey conducted by NIMHANS revealed that 13.7% of Indians currently experience mental disorders, with 10.6% requiring urgent intervention. This translates to over 13 crore people in need of immediate mental health support.
Yet, the healthcare system is woefully underprepared. India has only four psychiatrists per million people, compared to around 100 in Australia and over 150 in many developed nations. This severe shortage, combined with a persistent social stigma, leaves most individuals untreated and misunderstood.
The burden of this crisis doesn’t fall solely on the patients. Families and caregivers often carry the emotional, physical, and financial weight. Known as the Caregiver Burden, this includes dealing with behavioral disturbances, managing violent outbursts, sacrificing work and social lives, and struggling with rising treatment costs. Introduced by Treudley in 1946, this concept highlights how caregiving without support can deteriorate the caregiver’s own mental health and quality of life.
In India, 80% of caregivers report experiencing such burden—yet most have little to no access to psychoeducation or support systems. The root causes are often a lack of awareness and the absence of structured family support groups.
That’s where MindSpa comes in.
MindSpa’s mission is to raise awareness about mental illness and de-addiction while working actively to destigmatize these challenges. Through workshops, school programs, family support initiatives, and community campaigns, we aim to make mental health a shared responsibility—not a private struggle.
MindSpa supports early recognition and management of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, OCD, and substance abuse. We train teachers, parents, and caregivers to identify warning signs like self-harm, negative coping mechanisms, or bullying, and offer tools to intervene effectively.
Our approach includes:
•Psychoeducation for families and schools
•Rehabilitation and vocational training for persons with mental illness (PMI)
•Creating employment and re-occupation opportunities
•Establishing centers for therapy, education, and skill-building
At MindSpa, we believe that healing begins with understanding. When awareness, support, and education work together, we create a powerful network of care—enabling individuals and families not just to survive, but to thrive.
Let’s come together. Let’s change the conversation around mental health—starting today.

Caring for a loved one with mental illness can be exhausting and lead to burnout. We help caregivers through stress-relief workshops, peer support groups, respite care options, and access to mental health professionals for their own emotional well-being.
